Dear Residents,
We consider it our duty and responsibility to advise on crime trends at this season of the year.
It is common knowledge that the end of the year evokes so much excitement and demands on individual and family finances.
Most homes are hosts to third-party cohabitation with domestic and undocumented persons.
We wish to advise all residents to exercise greater caution with the activities of domestic and casual workers, private guards and drivers. They should also be very cautious of the conduct of extended relations to ensure the safety of their properties.
At this period of the year, most family vulnerabilities have been identified and could be exploited by persons of questionable characters who have enjoyed undetected criminal habits within homes and families.
We advise that greater care must be taken to ensure that sensitive properties are carefully secured and activities of these third-party cohabitants monitored. Collaboration between private guards and domestic workers are highly likely to ensure the movement of stolen items from their victims.
Kindly ensure measures to control movement from and into your homes. Install CCTV cameras to monitor activities around your rooms, generator houses and electrical appliances.
Your car trunks must be carefully observed and vehicle tyres inspected frequently as drivers sell new tyres and replace them with polished used tyres. Diesel theft and collusion to facilitate vandalisation has been on the increase in most communities. Ensure early morning and late evening locks of all doors and check closets at home and offices from time to time. You may visit domestic workers’ closets and drawers routinely. Residents should put their ears down for late hours of phone calls and discourage unauthorised outings and visitors for domestic workers. Ensure that your vehicles a parked in secure and safe environments to avoid vandalization and keep sensitive personal items secured in safe places.
Children should be encouraged to take responsibility for the safekeeping of their properties.
Kindly ensure that you employ domestic workers and guards with documentation including police crime record clearance.
Pay your domestic workers worthy wages and timely too. Do not abuse domestic workers to avoid revenge crimes. Verbal assault and degrading remarks are very destructive to any worker. Well-deserved compliments are great motivations for every worker.
